SEC 2 Analytical Clinical Biochemistry : Nucleic acid, Lipid, Lipoproteins

Nucleic acids are the most crucial macromolecules for the durability of life. They carry the inheritable design of a cell and carry instructions for the functioning of the cell. The two main types of nucleic acids are deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA). Nucleic acids are large biomolecules and plays vital roles in living organisms. A major function of nucleic acids involves the storage and expression of genomic information. Deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA, encodes the information cells need to make proteins.

Lipids serve multitudinous and various purposes in the structure and functions of organisms. They may serve as a source of nutrition, a container for carbon, molecules that store energy, or even the building blocks of hormones and membranes. The predictive relationship between lipids and lipoproteins and cardiovascular illnesses, particularly coronary artery disease, has made measurements of lipids and lipoproteins in the clinical laboratory more crucial.
