Economics as a as a General course subject was introduced in Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College in 1950, the year in which the college was founded. Started Economics Honours course department in the year 2001.
Any student who has passed with Mathematics in the H.S/equivalent level are eligible to opt Economics Honours. However, no such requirement is relevant for ‘General’ course.
Students have access to departmental computer with internet facility.
The main motto behind the introduction of the subject was to make familiar or more precisely to cater the knowledge base in Economics and ultimately helps in employment opportunities.
