Phase equilibrium is a topic in Chemistry that focuses on studying equilibrium between gas, solid, and liquid. Equilibrium is the state in chemistry in which no change takes place in the chemical potential of components. In chemistry, a phase is an area where there is a uniform intermolecular interaction. The study of phase equilibria is used to constrain the stability of individual minerals and assemblages of minerals in pressure–temperature–composition space, to obtain estimates of pressure or temperature of equilibration of metamorphic and igneous rocks, and to evaluate conditions of origin of various magmas.
