Dr. Samiparna Rakshit, HOD

Dr. Samiparna Rakshit, MA, B.Ed, PhD is an Assistant Professor of History. She has been teaching for the last 20 years and taught in different reputed Colleges and Universities of India. At present she is teaching at Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College, Kolkata affiliated to University of Calcutta. She was conferred with Doctoral Degree in History by Jadavpur University, one of the renowned universities of our country in 2009. Her area of interest is very much diverse and wide which includes Child Rights, rights of Indian women, history of Indian women, Gender History, History of Egypt and many more. Dr. Rakshit has published papers in UGC Refereed National Journals and also written chapters in various reputed edited books. Her first book entitled “Child Rights in India: 1947-79” got published in 2021.

Doctoral Degree

Has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Arts from Jadavpur University on 4^th December 2009. The thesis was entitled ‘The Post-Colonial Nation-State and the Child: A Historical Study of Official Attitudes to the Child in India 1947-1979’.

Activity

ORGANIZING SEMINARS

1. Organised One Day Students’ seminar as convener on 23rd April 2019 at Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray college. The theme of the seminar was ‘Crisis of the Roman Empire and its Principal Causes Historiography’.
2. Organised ICSSR (ERC) Sponsored two-day National Seminar as convenor on 20th and 21st September 2019 in collaboration with Paschim Banga Itihaas Samsad, West Bengal at Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray college the theme of the seminar was ‘Gender in Indian History: its relation with different trajectories of history of Indian women from 1857 to 1947’.
3. Organised One Day Students’ Seminar for third semester students both Honours and general. The topic of the seminar was ‘Introduction to the Study of Museum and Archives’. The speaker was Satyakam Sen, Senior Technical Assistant, Archaeology Section, Indian Museum, Kolkata. The seminar was organised at Rabindra Sabhagriha, Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray college on 25th November 2019 at 1 p.m.

4.Organized a National Webinar on 9^th August 2020 at 5 p.m. on the topic: ‘Bollywood: Past Challenges and Effects of The Pandemic’ in collaboration with IQAC, Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College, Kolkata for faculties of various disciplines.

5. Organized an Online Students’ Seminar for the Honours students of all the three semesters (1^st, 3^rd, 5^th) of various colleges of West Bengal on 17^thDecember 2021 at 6.30 pm on the topic ‘History of Medical College in Bengal and Pundit Madhusudan Gupta’.  

ORGANIZING VARIOUS PROGRAMMES

1. Organised a Value Education Programme on 16th September 2019 along with Department of Political Science and Education in collaboration with NSS, Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College for 1st semester Honours students. The speaker of this program was Amalathmanandaji Maharaj of Ramkrishna Mission, Golpark.
2. Organised a Thalassemia Awareness programme on 13th November 2019 in collaboration with NSS Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray college for first semester students.
3. As Convenor of the cultural committee of Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray college and organised inter college competition on 19th and 20th February 2020 at Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray college to celebrate International Mother Language Day 2020.

1. Attended the Central Commission’s office at Salt Lake, Kolkata for performing duties as Subject Expert for the Personality Test for the post of Assistant Teacher (Upper Primary) in respect of 1^stSLST, 2019 on 09.07.2019 and 10.09.2019.
2. Acted as honourable judge of Speech Competition on the topic ‘Ill Effects of Corruption’ held on 01.11.2019 at Virtual Room of Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College.
